Coolagolite Residence

This project in Coolagolite NSW was a complex and highly considered building project, representing a culmination of refined techniques and the thoughtful integration of diverse building elements. Jake Smith Carpentry was able to bring together solid timber with modern building element mediums. Jake was involved in all aspect of this build, starting from design, earthworks, concreting and foundations works, all the way through to roofing, internal fit out and joinery works.

Coordinating trades, Jake ran this project smoothly and cohesively, managing building and logistical complications through problem solving and offering diverse and positive solutions.

Locally sourced bush poles were hand-selected, felled and delivered from nearby forests and combined with locally milled structural hardwoods and large-section Ironbark posts sourced from Northern Queensland. Together, with manufactured timber and products, Jake Smith Carpentry was able to create a modern yet grounded interpretation of a traditional natural home.

Working with suppliers and mills, Jake was able to bring the material together on time and staged appropriately

The 8.5-metre-high verandah ceiling required intricate construction and finishing, delivering an expansive and light-filled living space. Extensive consideration was given to passive solar performance, with close collaboration alongside Ecosphere Design, to refine roof lines, floor plan dimensions and orientations. Double-glazed windows and doors are strategically positioned to respond to seasonal sun paths, while the bi-lineal roof form allows winter solar gain through to the equinox.

Solid timber floors, plywood ceilings, and pavilion-style planning bring warmth, durability, and flexibility, allowing staged construction and early occupation. This project reflects a deep commitment to sustainability, longevity, and craftsmanship across every element of the build.
